When I was young I had the dream of being a professional BMX rider. To be honest I was not very good at jumping and doing tricks. I was afraid. But one thing was certain, I was free when I was on my bike. I was the fastest of all of my friends.
When I was 12 I was in a bike accident that left me unable to walk for a couple of weeks. While I was in this state I was over come with an unconscious fear that kept off of bikes until I was about 20.
Slowly I started to over come my fear of riding bikes. I had found freedom again. I started to do research and try to figure out where I wanted cycling to fit into my life. I was engaged to my wife and figured that the dangers of the BMX world would not be appreciated by my future wife, (this is really just an excuse because I was afraid for my life to jump) however, one thing that I was not afraid of was speed. I had no problem going as fast as my heart and bike would let me go. So I bought a road bike.
I was in love with this bike. My fiancee was little jealous. I started to look into racing but my bike was not good enough to race. So fortunately the bike was stolen. This led to the purchase of my $1,800, 2011 Fuji SL 1.0. This bike had what it took to race. I however did not. I finished dead last in my first two races.
After being introduce to the racing world I am determined to make it to the pro level. This blog is to track my journey there and to share tips and helpful insights that I gain along the way.
Enjoy!
